That’s a wrap on our time with Mars in Taurus! Mars, our planet of action and passion, moves into Gemini today July 20, 2024 at 1:43PM PT! We move from the sign of the body into the sign of the mind and this ingress is an encouragement for us to explore new ways of thinking. Mars will stay in Gemini until September 4, 2024 but before we get into the now, let’s reflect back on our most recent experience with Mars in Gemini…
You might remember Mars’s last stint in Gemini because it was a pretty iconic one. Mars was in Gemini from August 20, 2022 through March 25, 2023. His stay in Gemini was longer than normal because of a Mars Retrograde period during fall/winter ‘22-’23. So what does that mean!? It means we may find clarity for our present looking back to this Retrograde time period. What was lighting you up? What was pissing you off? It may mean some of our passions, our pain points, and the stimulation we crave may mirror some desires from those dates.
Wanna know what’s extra crazy?!!? Venus is in Leo right now, remember how I wrote in my post that the last time we had Venus in Leo was ALSO when she was Retrograde summer 2023?! SoOOoO now, in this moment, we have Mars and Venus back in the signs of Gemini and Leo. Last time they were there, they experienced Retrogrades!
[SIDE BAR: Honestly probably need to get stoned and make a podcast all about that Retrograde Reflection period we’re in cuz it’s kinda blowing my mind (stay tuned / watch this space) but it’s to be noted!]
I like to think of Mars being our core needs while Venus is our core wants. Right now they are both looking back to the past to determine if their soul desires are being met. If the answer is anything less than an excited “yes!!!!!” well starchildren, we have some shit we need to do.
Oh and THE MERCURY RETROGRADE THAT’S COMING UP in August is (can you guess) the same sign we experienced Mercury Retrograde in LAST YEAR. So many ghosts of our 2022-2023 past coming to say “what the fuck is going on? are you okay?!?!?” These past reflections are reminders that 2024 is a very different year than 2022 and 2023. That we may have to make changes in order to honor the goals we once had. Alright, #RetrogradeReminderSeason rant over for now, fuller episode to come I swear, so let’s look into a black mirror…
You are probably familiar with the popular dystopian-technology sci-fi TV show Black Mirror. The show’s creator has previously said the title refers to our devices being black mirrors we carry everywhere, that once the screens boots down they reflect ourselves in them. Far out. The creator has spoken numerous times about the title, but I liked what this Reddit user had to say about their thoughts on the symbolism of what “black mirror” means.
In light there is reflection.
In dark there is reflection.
They show us different things.
About ourselves.
The Gemini duality of it ALL.
Back in February when I spent the month studying Spanish in Mexico, I visited the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon at the archeological site Teotihuacan. Part of the trip included a visit to a silver and obsidian manufacturer in San Martín Centro. Our guide Geraldo showed us all of the giant slabs of obsidian. I was slightly familiar with obsidian, being a lover of crystals and stones. I always knew it as a stone of protection, black being the color of power and groundedness. Our guide told us the history of obsidian for weapons, it’s sharpness used for tools by the Aztecs and other ancient civilizations. Protection on all levels. He showed us a mosaic life-and-death mask he created, I ended up purchasing a smaller version of the one he showed me. Then he handed me something I had never seen before, a black mirror.
Geraldo showed me the black circular obsidian disk and told me about how it was used to look at the sun, that obsidian protected the eyes of the Aztecs. He mentioned they used it for scrying and divination. It was beautiful and I was shocked at how clearly I could see myself. I bought the black mirror. I also bought an obsidian massager that looked a little bit like a sex toy, but anyway, let’s stick to the black mirror because it all feels very Mars in Gemini. With the twins of Gemini, the mutable energy, we can see it all. The light, the dark. The life, the death. It’s all both. We see and are seen. The information we exchange, the relationships we nourish. The black mirror offered me a reflection of myself I had never seen before and it offered the possibility to tap into other worlds.
Gemini reaches its hands out and asks you to come along, craving collaboration. Gemini wants to see every angle. The Taurus Mars energy we’ve been in lately is more of a push. Sometimes we need a push! But sometimes it can be frustrating when Taureans charge full steam ahead. The bulls are relational and lovers of love, but sometimes they can have issues when things don’t go exactly as planned. I always jokingly say let a Taurus run your life ;) But now we’re in Gemini time and Gemini loves to bounce ideas and concepts off of others. Gemini is choosing its adventure as the adventure unfolds. While Mars, our planet of fervor is in the sign of the twins we’re being asked to be radically open-minded and to adjust with every information update. New data = new demands.
Mars in Gemini encourages a Mercurial sensibility, to read beyond the headline. Some Gemini pitfalls can be getting too wrapped up in drama or gossip. Especially with Leo in Venus in the mix giving support to Gemini Mars. Be mindful as the court of public opinion has a LOT to say. Make sure to steer folks toward what you want to discuss and talk about. Gemini Mars can accidentally spill the beans, so a loving reminder to welcome the phrase “let me get back to you” into your lexicon this Gemini Mars season.
Back to duality: while some occasions might need you to slow your roll on overpromising and being too quick to commit, there’s another side of Gemini Mars that encourages you not to miss out on opportunities. If your gut is feeling the strong yes or no, listen up. Sometimes Gemini Mars lessons are about being ready to act fast and make upgrades on a moment’s notice. Don’t be surprised if random ass opportunities pop up. For example: Is the latest draft of your script up to date? Are your current offerings easy to find for your service-based work? You don’t have to get ready if you stay ready.
This Mars in Gemini season you are being offered the chance to connect with your words, connect with your inner monologue, and find where all the seemingly unrelated parallel paths end up converging.
