progress not perfectionism and the quest for regenerative pleasure
This week was OFF THE CHARTS with soooo much astrology action all on the same day! This past Sunday we had Venus move into Virgo, the Leo New Moon, AND Mercury Retrograde, it was just too much! I couldn’t let Virgo Venus get lost in the shuffle like that. I’m sure she was waiting, wondering if I slipped up, did I forget her? Girl no! I just like to give a little breathing room! So we’re a few days settled in, as Venus in Virgo started on August 4, 2024, at 7:43 PM PT. Our Venusian energy has left the loud, solar-charged sign of Leo and is now in the mercurial Virgo mansion, a realm that is deeply rooted in service, sustainability, and earth magic. We will have Venus in Virgo until August 29, 2024.
Virgo is a Mercury-ruled sign and Mercury is currently Retrograde, also in Virgo! Mercury Retrograde will last until August 28, 2024. So besides the first few hours of Venus entering Virgo and the last day of Virgo Venus, before she moves into Libra on August 29, this whole Virgo Venus period will be under the influence of Mercury Retrograde. So what does that mean?!?!?! This means that not only our realms of Mercury-based matters are up for review, but it’s also closely linked to our Venusian needs.
Venus is in Fall when it’s in the sign of Virgo, so there’s a natural challenge to Venus’s nature when she’s in the sign of the maiden. But why?! Virgo Venus sounds kinda nice?!? There’s so much imagery related to fertility and tending to the garden when we think of Virgo, so why is Venus a little bit grumpy here? It’s because Virgo energy can tend to work so hard, build a beautiful home, and curate the most fantastic experiences, and then when they step back they realize they did it all for the wrong reasons.
They’re the sign hosting the dinner party that forgets to eat because they were so busy cosplaying being the perfect entertainer. They created a world for everyone to enjoy, but they often won’t hear a “thank you” or a “job well done” but even that pang of hurt doesn’t stop them. They want to know that you had the time of your life. Virgo will just keep at their little tasks hoping you notice. They may think to themselves: next time they’ll realize we’re all having such a good time because of ME!
Virgo is often living in their own mind and they can be swept up into their obsessions. Beware: one day they might freak out and cash out all their money from their bank accounts and leave town and no one will ever see them again. They self-destruct and seek out a new life where they can be a little baddie because they felt like they weren’t allowed to be one before. But they were allowed! They were allowed THE ENTIRE TIME. The expectations Virgo Venus can put on themself and others can be brutal. They don’t know that being the perfect host is not real. The “perfect host” can create a world straight out of Pinterest or keep it casual and order Little Cesar’s Hot-N-Ready pizzas. When Virgo Venus is in her power she’s building sources for regenerative pleasure. She is releasing the made-up assignments and timelines bestowed upon her by her. While Venus is in Virgo, I encourage you to spend this time figuring out where you can offload labor, work smarter ~ not harder, and find the tools you need to make life on earth a little sweeter. It’s going to be okay!!!!!! *hugs in Virgo Venus* Did you need some physical touch to get out of your mind? I know it’s corny to say ~touch grass~ but please, while we have Virgo Venus, touch the grass, touch your body, touch your lover’s body, eat with your hands, and give yourself (and others) credit for the progress made. Progress, not perfectionism.
