🎶 I'm not in this world
To live up to your expectations
Neither are you here to live up to mine, yeah 🎶
I’ve mentioned that the transits can speak to me in many ways, one of which can be through songs. When I was thinking of the energy of Mercury in Aries, the planet of communication in the sign of self, a song and phrase immediately popped into my head: I AM THAT I AM.
I’ve always loved this Peter Tosh record, especially this track, with the repetitive, spell-like “I am that I am.” Aries is the embodiment of the phrase “I am.” I looked into the origins of the phrase “I am that I am” which is rooted in ancient Biblical times. Wikipedia summarizes it as a common English translation of a Hebrew phrase which can also mean:
I am who (I) am
I will become what I choose to become
I will be what I will be
I create what(ever) I create
I am the Existing One
It’s so Aries omg. Mercury moved into Aries on March 3rd, 2025 and will re-enter Aries on April 16th due to Mercury Retrograde (post to come), which starts up on March 14th. Mercury will then stay in the sign of the Ram until May 10th. We get an extra long stay in the first sign, signaling we must to tend pay attention to matters of the self. This is extra supported by the simultaneous Venus Retrograde happening in the same signs! Venus Retrograde is firmly shaking our shoulders asking us to have some self-respect. Mercury in the same signs says: verbalize it. How can you advocate for yourself, while you keep getting lost in other people’s BS? The old story must die.
One of the many Aries Mercury lessons I love sharing is the radical act of being yourself and not being afraid to express it. It’s a superpower. The third bullet point from above “I will be what I will be” slaps so hard because is this not the truth? Aries is obsessed with the truth. I find a lot of people are scared of the idea of “where you put your energy is what you will become” because often it’s co-opted by false prophets and used for spiritual bypassing. Accountability and real-life obstacles in our lives, including systems of oppression, shouldn’t be ignored but they also shouldn’t be the reason you excuse yourself from even trying. The story you tell yourself is the story you are creating in a tangible reality. Bring the power back to you and not the forces working against you. Real evil eye shit. 🧿
If you ever explored different modalities of therapy, a big 101 lesson right away is the power of “I” statements. In life, conflict, love…anything really! Stick to “I” statements. Extremely Aries school of thought. Instead of “you make me feel like shit” we turn it into “I feel devalued when you don’t give me words of affirmation when I ask because they help me feel secure in our relationship. Will you be able to offer that to me?” This doesn’t mean blame or accountability is never present in life, but especially while Mercury is in Aries, ESPECIALLY since it will be part of the Mercury Retrograde starting on March 14, the more we stick with our “I” to explain our “why” the more effective our communication will be.
It all comes back to: what do you really want out of your exchanges in the weeks to come? Getting to the root of your “why” will stop you from wasting your own time. While you may have the energy (for now) to fight for fighting’s sake, Mercury Retrograde is pumping the brakes, Venus is already tired, and your part in everything is up for examination.
